| Description | Eurycoma longifolia Jack (Simaroubaceae family), known locally as 'Tongkat Ali' by the ethnic population, is popularly taken as a traditional remedy to improve the male libido, sexual prowess and fertility. Presently, many tea, coffee and carbonated beverages, pre-mixed with the root extract are available commercially for the improvement of general health and labido. Eurycomanone, the highest concentrated quassinoid in the root extract of E. longifolia improved fertility by increasing testosterone and spermatogenesis of rats through the hypothalamus-pituitary-gonadal axis. |

Tongkat Ali crude extract can induce apoptosis through the action of apoptosis protease, thereby inhibiting mcF-5 tumor cell growth. It has been reported that enrycomenone-rich Tongkat Ali root extract can induce apoptosis of hepatocellular carcinoma cells HepG2 through the P53 pathway. ⭐Antimalarial The chloroform fraction and n-butanol fraction of the methanol crude extract of Tongkat Ali root were found to have antimalarial activity. The quassinoids compounds in Tongkat Ali root extract can inhibit the synthesis of proteins in malaria parasites, thereby achieving antimalarial effects. ⭐Improves sexual function After feeding the coarse extract of Tongkat Ali root to adult male rats with sexual experience, the sexual function indicators of male rats have been improved, and adult male rats without sexual experience have sexual desire after feeding the crude extract, indicating that it has the effect of inducing sexual desire and improving sexual desire. Estrogen-treated rats were given continuous gastric Tongkat Ali extract for 14d and found to also promote sperm production and increase serum testosterone levels in rats.
