Hesperidin is a kind of bioflavonoid (flavanone glycoside) found in citrus family, such as bitter orange, seville orange, sour orange or Zhi Shi in Chinese. Its aglycone form is called hesperetin. Chemical structure of hesperidin contains an aglycone, hesperetin (methyl eriodictyol) which is bonded to rutinose. Glycoside moiety of hesperidin is a disaccharide which contains rhamnose and glucose and presented in two isomeric forms including rutinose or neohesperidose.
Solubility
1 g dissolved in 50 liters of water. Soluble in dimethylformamide and formamide at 60 ℃. Slightly soluble in methanol and hot glacial acetic acid, almost insoluble in acetone, benzene and chloroform, but easily soluble in dilute alkali and pyridine.
Stability
Hesperidin has good light resistance and heat resistance. It exists stably under strong alkaline conditions. When pH value is 12, its solubility in solution is the largest
Safety
Acute oral toxicity studies have shown that LD50 of hesperidin is more than 2000 mg/kg, while subacute and subchronic toxicity studies have shown that the no-observed-adverse-effect level is more than 2000 mg/kg, indicating the safety of hesperidin in herbal formulations.
Package
25kg fiber drum with sealed inner polyethylene liner
Shelf-life
24 months, if tightly sealed in a cool and dry place
■Chronic Venous Insufficiency Hesperidin alone, or in combination with other citrus bioflavonoids (diosmin, for example), is most often used for blood vessel conditions such as hemorrhoids, varicose veins, and poor circulation (venous stasis). It is also used to treat lymphedema. ■ Vitamin drugs Hesperidinisalsocalled “Vitamin P.” Hesperidin can reduce the brittleness of capillaries, protect capillaries and prevent microvascular rupture and bleeding. ■ Type II diabetes Hesperidin might inhibit the damage of pancreatic islet by the antioxidative efficacy, and the treatment with hesperidin might increase insulin and consequently decrease glucose levels and alter glycogen contents in the diabetic tissues due to improving glycolytic and gluconeogenetic enzymes like as rutin. ■Anti-inflammatory Hesperidin is a natural flavonoid that possesses anti-inflammatory properties in many disease models. For example, hesperidin has been shown in rodent model to reduce inflammation as well as inflammatory pain through suppression of cytokine production, NF-κB activity, and oxidative stress. ■Anti-viral Hesperidin is also known to possess antiviral activity by altering the immune system, mainly by regulating interferons in the influenza A virus. ■Anti-oxidant Hesperidin was found to be moderately active as an antioxidant agent; its capacity reached 36%. ■Anti-cancer The results revealed that hesperidin exhibited pronounced anticancer activity against the selected cell lines. IC50 were 1.67, 3.33, 4.17, 4.58 µg/mL, respectively.
